Issues

"Change Looks Different" is both a call to action and a gentle reminder that we need to be the change we want to see. It captures the idea that real transformation breaks away from our usual routines, encouraging us to welcome new perspectives and approaches as we strive for positive change. It holds accountable both people and Institutions.

AMPLIFYING THE COMMUNITY'S VOICE:

  • Committed to genuine community engagement, ensuring all voices are heard and represented, including the youth.

COMMUNITY-BASED SOLUTIONS FOR CRIME:

  • Advocate for community-oriented policing and reforms that build trust between law enforcement and residents.

  • Supporter of the Police Chief’s Community Engagement Committee

HOUSING SUMMIT- ENVIRONMENTAL ENHANCEMENTS, REPAIRS, NEW DWELLINGS,  HOMELESSNESS:

  • Bring together the City of Winston-Salem and City Departments in Partnership with Community Stakeholders to collectively set out a plan to address housing. I'm advocating for the City to approach this issue with the Asset Based Community Development Model.

ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE (EJ40 INITIATIVE) AND EDUCATION:

EJ40 INITIATIVE:

  • Advocating for Winston-Salem to align with the Federal Government's EJ40 initiative, aiming for 40 percent of overall benefits from specific investments to flow into marginalized, underserved, and pollution-burdened communities.

  • President Biden's historic commitment to EJ40, emphasizes the importance of environmental justice in federal investments.

CATEGORIES OF INVESTMENT INCLUDE:

  • Climate Change: Paving the way for sustainable practices and resilience in the face of climate challenges.

  • Clean Energy and Energy Efficiency: Encouraging the adoption of clean and efficient energy solutions for a greener future.

  • Clean Transit: Promoting environmentally friendly transportation options for the community.

  • Affordable and Sustainable Housing: Striving for housing solutions that are both affordable and environmentally sustainable.

  • Training and Workforce Development: Investing in programs that equip individuals with skills for green jobs and sustainable practices.

  • Remediation and Reduction of Legacy Pollution: Addressing historical environmental injustices through cleanup efforts and pollution reduction.

  • Development of Critical Clean Water and Wastewater Infrastructure: Ensuring access to clean water and efficient wastewater systems for all residents.

Invest more in Youth Based Initiatives:

I'm imagining Summer Police and Fire Academies but with work stipends for teenagers and preteens. This would promote a better understanding of our key city services while also laying the foundation to potential retain more of our youth for key city services.

As the City addresses the Housing issue and continues to provide free access to education at Forsyth Tech, I am envisioning an added partnership with developers where qualified youth get hands on experience, and pay in the various building related trades while enrolled in college, increasing the transition into the needed work force after graduation from Forsyth Tech.
